Today’s Find: 2009 Ultra High Relief Saint-Gaudens Gold Coin (Double Eagle)

Visit this post everyday and be the first to know what just walked in the door at Kenmore Collectibles.

Commissioned by President Theodore Roosevelt and Designed by renowned American Sculptor, Augustus Saint-Gaudens, the original medallion was first created in ultra high relief. It took 11 strikes to bring up the details of this coin. Found to be unstackable, the coin was redesigned two more times, the highly sought after High Relief (struck 3 times instead of the original 11) and the normal relief version, $20.00 Saint-Gaudens, minted from 1907 – 1933.

We highlighted the normal Saint-Gaudens relief  not that long ago (Today’s Find March 15th).  Today we are highlighting the Ultra High Relief 2009 coin minted at West Point New York. Uncirculated and blemish-free.

Coin Highlights:

  • Contains 1 oz of .999 fine Gold.
  • Struck on a 4 mm thick planchet in Ultra High Relief..
  • Obverse: Shows Lady Liberty clutching a fiery torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left.
  • Reverse: Features a spectacular bald eagle in flight

Coin comes in a beautiful mahogany box with the certificate of authenticity and collectible book
