Today’s Find: 1969 Topps #500 Mickey Mantle White Letter Variation

Visit this post everyday and be the first to know what just walked in the door at Kenmore Collectibles.

Topps last card issued for Mickey Mantle and it’s a doozy! 23 cards in the 1969 Topps Set have the White Letter Variation.  The surname is normally yellow but for these cards and for no reason anyone can explain, they are white.  Gaylord Perry, Willie McCovey to name a couple but the biggest and baddest one of them all is Mickey Mantle.  The yellow version sells for $350.00 in NM condition.  This white variation books for $2000.00 in NM. Quite a difference and a true testament of how tough this card is to find in NM condition. To start off, most of these white variation cards come off center.  Also, notice the blue printing spot on the left edge.  That is also typical of this card.

Our specimen has great color, focus and minor corner wear. No creases either.  On the back of the card, things get a little trickier. It is very off-center on the back. The circle with the “500” and Mantle’s name are touching the border. So although this card is a far cry from $2000 quality, we are selling this card for $480.00 taking into account the condition and the desirability of having this prized possession.
