Vol. 2, No. 32
| Week of August 30th, 2010
|
Dear Collector,
When I was a kid, I did not have a lot of money. My weekly allowance was $1.00. To supplement my income,
I would look for loose change. If I passed a telephone booth, I'd put my hand into the coin return tray. If I were
near a candy machine, cigarette machine, soda machine, I would check. Now before you ask, I've stopped
looking for loose change several decades ago. But I'm reconsidering... This is an unbelievable story. Do you
know those coin counting Coinstar machines in the supermarkets? It changes your coins to cash. They are a great
convenience for lazy people and a great money maker for people who check the machine's reject coin tray. Case in point. One of our customers brought in an 1853 Liberty Head Ten Dollar Gold coin they found in the Coinstar
tray. It looked to have been in a piece of jewelry at one time as the edges of the coin were damaged. Still, there
was $550.00 worth of gold in the coin. Not a bad haul for checking a vending machine for loose change, eh?
Answer to last week's trivia question: Babe Ruth, Willie Mays and Hank Aaron
first played in one city, left to play in another city and ended their careers back in the original city. Ruth started in
Boston with the Red Sox and ended his career with the Boston Braves. Mays began in New York on the Giants and ended
his career as a New York Met. Aaron started in Milwaukee on the Braves and ended his career as a Milwaukee Brewer.
This week's special: All boxes of Football between the years, 2006 -
2009 will be 10% - 20% off. See the entire list. Not good towards 5% Off Friday.
Special Notice:
We will be closed Monday September 6th for Labor Day. Have a great long weekend.
