With the Red Sox playing exemplary ball, let’s look back to another powerhouse Red Sox team, the 1975 Boston Red Sox. If these two teams faced each other, who would win?

Both teams had about the same win-loss ratio and about the same batting average.
The 1975 Red Sox were younger by almost three years. Of the two teams, their play was less aggressive. They struck out half as much and stole about half as many bases.
The 2013 team was probably a bigger, stronger team: more doubles, more home runs and their pitchers struck almost twice as many hitters.
Yes, the 2013 team would probably beat the 1975 team, but there is an element not easily seen in a statistic (besides the fact that the 1975 team was chock full of Hall of Famers and all-time fan favorites like Carl Yastrzemski, Carlton Fisk, Jim Rice, Luis Tiant, Dwight Evans, Fred Lynn, Bill “Spaceman” Lee, and Rico Petrocelli, not to mention coaches like Johnny Pesky and Don Zimmer). Call it determination, guts, what have you. No game in baseball was more exciting than the sixth game of the 1975 World Series.
Here is a 1975 Boston Red Sox Team Signed Ball. Not some 25th anniversary commemorative ball but the real deal.
